Know your rights! If your child is under seventeen years of age, he or she has the right to:
- Have their parents immediately notified that they are in custody.
- Have a lawyer and/or parents present during any questioning.
- Know the nature of the charges against him or her.
- Remain silent.
If your son or daughter is arrested you should:
- Immediately request that the police release him or her to your custody.
- Post bond if required.
- Contact a juvenile defense attorney.
- Appear at the Court for a preliminary hearing.
