CONTROLLED - SUBSTANCE

Controlled Substances

Controlled substances are drugs that are separated into “schedules” based on how addictive they are, how harmful they are and their possible medical benefits.

  Some Schedule 1 drugs are:

  • Ecstasy

  • LSD

  • Peyote

  • Hallucinogenic mushrooms

  • GHB

  • Marijuana

  • Cocaine

These drugs have a high potential for abuse, and serve no legitimate medical purpose.

Some Schedule 2 drugs are:

  • Opium

  • Morphine

  • Hydrocodone

  • Oxycodone

  • Methadone

  • Methamphetamines

These drugs have a high potential for abuse and addiction, but have an approved medical use.

Some Schedule 3 drugs are:

  • Ketamine (anabolic steroids)

  • Morphine (lower potency)

  • Hydrocodone with aspirin or acetaminophen

These drugs have a lower risk of dependency, and an approved medical use.

Some Schedule 4 drugs are:

  • Valium

  • Rohypnol

  • Xanax

These drugs have a low risk of abuse, and limited addictive tendencies.

Some Schedule 5 drugs are:

  • Cold medicine with ephedrine

  • Cough syrups with Codeine

These drugs have a very low risk of abuse and can usually be obtained over the counter.
