Joe was a victim of an "investigation" that pointed directly at him. Stolen farm equipment on Joe's worksite meant the cops weren't going to lift a finger to fully investigate. It was up to Dan Ambrose to show the jury that Joe's employee was the one who stole the equipment. NOT GUILTY
A bulldozer sat silently on a piece of land that was being developed. Joe had unloaded it there earlier that day. Detective Uhas from the Michigan State Police received a tip that the dozer was stolen. It was. The serial numbers had been scratched off and painted over. Of course Uhas contacted the owner of Joe’s company ,Mike, clearly the prime suspect. Mike came to the post with his lawyer. His explanation was that Joe had brought him this equipment and that he was leasing it from Joe. He admitted that he received the income from the use of the equipment. Uhas asked how much the equipment was being leased for. Mike told him that he was not sure because he had not paid him anything yet. This answer did not concern Uhas too much, he bought it hook, line, and sinker. Joe was charged with three counts of receiving and concealing stolen property. There was also a front end loader and a cement mixer that Joe was supposedly leasing to Mike. These were found at Mike’s other job sights.
oe could not testify because of his prior convictions. We called no witnesses. Mike was clearly the person who should have been convicted, and that’s exactly what the jury said after they acquitted Joe |
